NEW WIDNES VIKINGS SUPPORT SCHEME KICKS OFF
A new independent scheme to support player recruitment and retention at Widnes Vikings has been launched.
Widnes Vikings Independent Player Support, or Widnes VIPS, will offer a platform for fans to make regular contributions to the rugby club. Although it replaces a similar scheme run by VIQI, which ended in August, there are a number of differences.
Every two months, prizes will be on offer to members. Some of these will literally be rewards that money can’t buy! All those signing up to the scheme before the end of day on 15th December 2022 will be entered into a free draw to win a 2023 season shirt, signed by the players.
Every penny of member’s contributions will be earmarked for the club. All prizes will come from Widnes Vikings, from supporters, or paid for through corporate sponsorship of the scheme.
Widnes VIPS is a not-for-profit organisation, run entirely by an unpaid board of trustees. To ensure we are completely transparent, an Annual General Meeting will be held to which all members will be invited.
Commenting on the launch, Chair Anne-Marie Hughes said
“As a group of fans, the board of trustees all realise what a difference support such as this can make to the club and we were sorry that VIQI was unable to continue after providing such a lot of financial assistance. It has taken us some time to get everything up and running from scratch, but we’re delighted that we are now ready to launch.
We’d like to thank Widnes Vikings for offering to provide prizes for our members, particularly as we are completely independent of them. Of course we will work in partnership with the club to provide those vital extra funds".
